STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
MARYVILLE, Tn.--- The Asbury women's basketball team (4-7, 1-1 CCS) ended their 10-day snow break on Tuesday night against Maryville College (2-9, 1-1 CCS), securing their first ever Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) victory as members, 69-61.

Leading the scoring for AU was sophomore elementary education major Emily Sizemore with 19 points. Sizemore had a very well-rounded game adding five steals, four rebounds, and dishing four assists. The sophomore received CCS Rookie of the Week honors a couple weeks back for her performances earlier this month.

AU was paced in scoring by junior psychology major Morgan Flannery and senior multi-media journalism major Haleigh Releford's 11 points each. Flannery added two steals and a three-pointer, while Releford added four boards and three steals.

Asbury took a 45-28 advantage into halftime after back to back 22 and 23 point quarters. The Eagles shot 52% (17-33) from the field in the first half, using their advantage to take the impressive lead. The defense was also key in the half, holding Maryville to just 28 first half points.

MC turned up on the offensive end in the second half, out-scoring AU 33-24 and getting the Eagles lead all the way down to just three points when it was 64-61 at the :30 second mark in the fourth quarter.

AU would close out the game on a mini 5-0 run off free throws from Camryn Poole, Morgan Flannery, and Emily Sizemore to close out the Scots and claim their first ever CCS win as a member of the conference.

Maryville was led in scoring by Emma Huskey's 18 and Ella Haney's 17. Huskey added nine boards and four assist while Haney grabbed six boards.

The Scots out-scored the Eagles in the paint 42-36 and held a lead in the rebounding department 39-33. AU caused 27 MC turnovers on 15 steals, the Scots turned Asbury over 21 times on 10 steals.

There were two lead changes and three times was the score tied in the conference affair.

Maryville falls to 1-1 in league play, while Asbury improves their standing to 1-1 in the CCS.

The two teams will meet back up in Wilmore on February 11th for Pack the Luce night, sponsored by Chick-Fil-A.

STORY - QUOTE
"I'm super proud of the ladies. I know they're a little upset with themselves for giving up the big lead we had, but I told them that Maryville is a good team, with a great coach and they've played a brutal early season schedule, so I knew they would make a comeback. This time we locked in, made the right plays down the stretch to secure the win and I couldn't be happier."
Chad Mayes | Head Women's Basketball Coach
