FRANKLIN, In.--- In a early season mid-week match, the AU women's soccer team (1-0-1) held their ground to secure a 0-0 draw against the Franklin Grizzlies (0-1-2) at Faught Stadium on Wednesday night. Both teams showcased a strong defensive performance throughout the match, ultimately leaving the scoreboard untouched.
The Eagles, under the protective watch of goalie Maliya Crump, maintained a stalemate despite several attempts by both sides to break the deadlock.
Crump, whose skill was crucial in preserving the draw, earned a well-deserved shutout for her outstanding performance between the posts. Key moments included a yellow card issued to AU at the 53:40 mark and to Franklin's Meghan Moses at 47:57, adding to the game's high intensity.
AU finished the game with nine shots, six landing as shots on goal. While Franklin got off just four shots and one as a shot on goal. AU took five corners on the night compared to the Grizzlies two. Each team committed a total of nine fouls on the evening.
With this result, Asbury's record now stands at 1-0-1 for the season. The team looks ahead to their next challenge, facing Warren Wilson in Asheville, NC, on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 4 PM.

"Unfortunate result for how I felt we played, especially in the second half. Full of energy and intensity that created some dangerous opportunities. At the end of the day we didn't create enough in the final third. Time to get back to the drawing board."
