Howard and Fleshood Connect for Goal in Eagles Tie with Blackburn

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky,.--- Asbury senior exercise major Gavin Howard and senior business admin. major Dalton Fleshood linked for a second half goal on Tuesday night as Asbury men's soccer (3-1-2) tied Blackburn College (1-4-3) in Wilmore, Ky., 1-1, remaining unbeaten on their home field.

The game started off with the Eagles trailing as Blackburn's Grant Eugea netted the opening goal. However, the Eagles rallied back in the second half with Fleshood striking an equalizer, facilitated by an assist from Howard. This marked Fleshood's second goal of the year and Howard's first assist of the season, helping to turn the tide of the game.

Asbury's defensive strategy was noteworthy, limiting Blackburn to just five shots all game, with only two on goal. The Eagles dominated offensively, tallying 24 shots, though only six were direct on targets. The team also excelled in set-pieces, earning seven corner kicks compared to Blackburn's three.

The goalkeeper team for Asbury, consisting of Collin McKibben and Peyton French, was crucial in maintaining the draw, with Peyton French delivering a critical save late in the match to deny Blackburn a win. Additionally, the AU defense and midfield were pivotal in controlling the pace and restricting Blackburn's opportunities.

Sophomore Salat Kipterit had two shots on goal in the second half, but they were stopped by Blackburn goalkeeper, Dawson Klunk. Jason Flaming led Asbury with five total shots, while Ryan Kim mixed in four as well.

With a season record now standing at 3-1-2, the Eagles look forward to their upcoming matchup against Hanover on Saturday in Hanover, In.

STORY - QUOTE
After the match, Dalton Fleshood commented, "A lot of respect to Blackburn for how they played away from home. We had a slow start and weren't able to recover for the win we wanted. We will get back into practice and be ready for what is next." This comment highlights the team's spirit and readiness to learn from this encounter and improve for their next game against Hanover College on September 21, 2024, at Hanover, IN.
