Shearer Named NCCAA All-American For Second Consecutive Season

GREENVILLE, SC. --- Senior elementary education major, Trinity Shearer of the Asbury women's basketball team has been named a National Christian College Athletics Association (NCCAA) Second Team All-American, for the second consecutive season. 

"Trin is so deserving of this honor of being an All-American," said Asbury women's basketball head coach Chad Mayes. "Now being a two-time All-American here at Asbury puts her in a rare place with some of the all-time greats to ever play here. I've been so blessed to have a front row seat to watch her lead and play these last four years. Going forward, Trinity is going to do amazing things in life just like she has here in the Asbury University Women's Basketball program."

Shearer, a five-foot-ten guard from Crab Orchard, Ky., finished her two-time All-American Asbury women's basketball career with a total of 74 wins, 1,135 points, 274 steals (school-record), and 287 assists. 

"Trinity personifies TeamAU's mission to serve, train, and compete for the glory of God," said Asbury VP for Intercollegiate Athletics and University Communications, Mark Whitworth. "She is very deserving of this All-American honor. We are grateful for the significant impact she has made on our campus and certainly on our women's basketball program."

In her final season she went for an Asbury school-record 90 steals, averaging 3.9 per game (No. 1 in the NCCAA with 11 more steals than anyone in the NCCAA. Shearer averaged 12.4 points per game with a total of 285 points to reach the 1,000 career point mark. 

Averaging 3.2 assists per game, Shearer led Asbury with 73 assists and committed only 24 turnovers (2nd in NCCAA with 3.0 assist/turnover ratio). She had three games with at least nine steals and grabbed 10 steals on February 3rd against Warren Wilson. 

On January 2nd, Shearer scored a season-high 25 points, going 11-17 from the field at Sewanee with . She scored 15 or more points 10 times on the season.
