Johnson's Walk-Off and Kaufman's First Win; Eagles Split Doubleheader with Wittenberg


STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WINCHESTER, Ky.--- Freshman engineering mathematics major Nathan Kaufman earned his first win for Asbury baseball (6-5) as MBA student Matthew Johnson walked-off game one, but the Eagles slipped in game two to split the doubleheader with Wittenberg University (5-5) at George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester, Ky.

"Proud of the way our guys fought today. Wasn't the prettiest but, we found a way to scratch one win. J Cole gave us a great start game one and the offense put some runs together to pull it out. Excited to see our continued growth throughout the season and onto Memphis next week!"

STORY - TOP PERFORMERS
* Ethan Cartwright and Andrew Billington each had two hits in game one, Billington with an RBI and Cartwright with a run scored
* Matthew Johnson had the RBI single in the bottom of the 10th in game one to drive in the winning run
* Nathan Kaufman went three innings with two hits, three strikeouts and no runs to earn his first career win
* Jackson Cole got the game one start and went seven innings with four earned runs and two walks. 
* Trevor McNaughton and Colton Perkins each had a hit with a run scored in game one
* Freshman Jacob Camfield and sophomore Jacob Parker combined for 4.1 innings of scoreless work in game two, only giving up one walk combined

Game One | ASBURY 5, WITTENBERG 4
Jackson Cole and N. Cunningham for Wittenberg dualed through six innings on the mound of scoreless work, before Wittenberg scored four in the top of the seventh and Asbury put up three in the bottom half
* AU tied the game in the eighth off a two-out single from Jacob Smith to drive in Matthew Johnson
* Nathan Kaufman put up zeros against Wittenberg in the eight, ninth, and tenth, letting Matthew Johnson walk it off for AU in the 10th
* Wittenberg had 13 hits and the game with two errors, Asbury had nine hits with two errors

Game Two | ASBURY 1, WITTENBERG 6
* A. Luther went seven innings in the start for Wittenberg, giving up only one hit and no earned runs
* Wittenberg had 11 hits and committed three errors, AU had two hits and one error
* The Tigers scored three in the first and three more in the fifth and sixth
* AU scored only one run, coming in the first inning
* Jacob Camfield and Jacob Parker put up 4.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen for AU
