Popplewell Hits Grand Slam to Help Sweep Berea in Midweek Contest


STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
BEREA, Ky.--- Asbury softball (2-2) recorded 18 hits across their doubleheader against Berea College on Tuesday afternoon, sweeping Berea 14-0 and 13-3. 

Freshman Emma Popplewell helped lead AU in their victory, collecting her first collegiate grand slam in game one. Popplewell went on to collect a total of three hits from six at-bats, with seven RBIs. 

Josie Deatherage was a force on the mound, collecting a season-high 11 K's and one run allowed through the series. Taylor Enlow aided in game two's victory, with seven strikeouts and two runs allowed.

STORY - TOP PERFORMERS
* Freshman Emma Popplewell went 3-6 on the day with a grand slam and seven RBIs
* Taylor Enlow went 3-5 on the day with a double and one RBI
* Freshman Abigail Moffat collected two hits, four walks, and six runs, and two stolen bases
* Josie Deatherage pitched all of game one, collecting eight K's and went on to close game two with three K's. Deatherage only allowed one run in her seven innings pitched.
* Samantha Bottom went 1-3 on the day with two runs, and her first triple of the season
* Katelyn Bolin went 3-7 on the day with two runs and two RBIs

* Taylor Enlow started game one on the mound, collecting seven K's and allowing two runs in five innings

Game One | ASBURY 14, BEREA 0
* Abigail Moffat led the game with a walk and scored on a bunt from Kaitlyn Wilson to take a 1-0 lead
* AU scored 10 runs in the next two innings, with help from Emma Popplewell's grandslam in the third inning
* Kaitlyn Wilson, Katelyn Bolin, and Taylor Enlow all gathered RBIs during the last two innings to extend the game to a 14-0 lead
* Josie Deatherage threw a five inning no-hitter, giving up no runs, no hits, and surrendering only two walks

Game Two | ASBURY 13, BEREA 3
* Berea got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead after one
* AU tied things up in the second off an RBI single from Kaylee Korros, scoring Samantha Bottom
* BC kept things close in the fifth notching a run to take things to 4-3 heading to the sixth
* The Eagles offense exploded for nine runs in the sixth, highlighted by RBI's from Abigail Moffat, Natalie Ison, Samantha Bottom, Katelyn Bolin, and Emma Popplewell
* Taylor Enlow gained the win on the mound going four innings, giving up just four hits, two ER, and striking out seven
* Josie Deatherage would close the game with two Ks in the bottom half to end things at 13-3, completing the midweek sweep
