WILMORE, Ky.--- Senior business admin major
Ryan Kim scored his third goal of the season on Wednesday night as Asbury men's soccer (6-3-2, 2-1-0 CCS) took their second straight Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) win with a 1-0 victory over Maryville College in Wilmore, Ky.
Asbury corporate sponsor APM Paving presented the event, the official asphalt and concrete contracting sponsor of Asbury Athletics.
The Eagles started off strong when
Ryan Kim, assisted by
Austin Dunlap (team-leading three), scored the sole goal of the match at 15:17 in the first period. This early lead set the tone for the remainder of the contest, despite intense pressure from the Scots.
The Bluegrass Orthopaedics Male Athlete of the Week, sophomore goalie
Peyton French, delivered another strong performance with two saves. French and the stingy Asbury defense secured their third shutout of the season, making only one goal allowed in the last two CCS matches.
AU had seven total shots on the match with only two on goal while Maryville had four shots with two on goal as well. Asbury worked for four corners while the Scots had three corners.
The match also saw its share of challenges, particularly when
Nick Eller received a yellow card at 85:54 in the second period, adding tension to the closing minutes of the match. Asbury's defense held firm, ensuring the scoreline remained in their favor till the final whistle.
Looking ahead, Asbury now holds a season record of 6-3-2, and 2-1-0 in conference play, is scheduled to face CCS opponent LaGrange College in LaGrange, Ga., on Saturday afternoon at 2 pm.
"We've really found ourselves recently in coming out with energy and have gained confidence to keep the pressure up we need to."
