Eagles Beat LaGrange 5-0 in Third Straight Conference Win

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
LaGrange, GA.---  AU sophomore Salat Kipterit scored his team-high sixth goal of the season on Saturday afternoon as Asbury men's soccer (7-3-2, 3-1-0 CCS) took their third straight Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) win with a 5-0 victory over LaGrange College in LaGrange, Ga. 

The Eagles started off strong when Kipterit scored the opening goal of the match at 5:41 in the first half. This early lead set the tone for the remainder of the game as Asbury went on to score four more goals by Nick Eller (36:50), Jason Flaming (49:05), Jon Gordon (63:35), and Ryan Kim (76:06). 

Eller, Flaming, and Kim's goals were their fourth each on the season, all being tied for second on the team after Kim's two goals in the last two matches. Senior Dalton Fleshood assisted Flaming's goal for his third on the year while Flaming had an assist on Gordon's goal for his team-leading fourth this season. 

Junior Jon Gordon's goal in the 63rd minute was the first of his Asbury career. AU finished the match with 13 total shots and 10 on goal, scoring five of their 10 put on goal. 

LaGrange had 10 shots with six on goal, but were held scoreless by the Asbury defense and sophomore goalkeeper Peyton French's six saves. AU now has four shutouts on the season and is now back-to-back matches after shutting out Maryville on Wednesday.

Nick Eller received a yellow card at 68:13 in the second period, along with Olufunmilayo Said for LaGrange also received a yellow at 69:51 in the match.

Going forward, Asbury now holds a season record of 7-3-2, and 3-1-0 in conference play, and is scheduled to face Boyce College back at in Wilmore this coming Tuesday at 7 pm.
