Eller Leads Eagles to 4-0 Win Over Huntingdon on Senior Day

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky.--- Senior sport management major Nick Eller led the Asbury men's soccer team (9-4-3, 4-2-0) to a decisive 4-0 victory against CCS opponent Huntingdon College (3-10-1, 0-6-0) on Senior Day Saturday afternoon in Wilmore, Ky., finishing their opening campaign in the CCS at 4-2 and No. 3 overall.

There are 14 Asbury seniors honored in pregame festivities including Collin Mckibben, Ollie Gunthorpe, Alexis Patatan, Ryan Kim, Nick Eller, Dalton Fleshood, Austin Dunlap, Yousef Ismail, Sawyer Hard, Gavin Howard, Cameron Johnson, Ben Davis, Brenden Krebs, and Braden Insko

The Eagles ended the first half with a 2-0 lead against Huntingdon and scored two more goals in the second half. The shutout from the Asbury defense is their fifth in the last six matches, and takes them to only two goals allowed in the past seven games.

Eller, a senior from Niefern, Germany, not only scored two goals including a critical penalty kick at 29:51 but also provided an assist for senior Ryan Kim's goal (39:41). Kim and Eller finish the regular season tied at five goals apiece.

Eller scored his second goal assisted by senior Dalton Fleshood at the 63:11 mark in the second half. Senior Yousef Ismail scored his third of the season for AU off a Dalton Fleshood corner kick (71:59). The four goals tie the third-most goals on the season for AU.

Asbury had 20 shots in the match with 10 on goal compared to Huntindgon's seven shots at five on goal. AU had 10 corners while the Hawks had two. Both teams had 10 fouls.

Goalkeeping duties were superbly handled by sophomore Peyton French, who made three saves in the first 71:46 minutes, and senior Collin McKibben, who maintained the clean sheet with two saves in the remaining time. Their combined efforts ensured no goals were conceded.

Looking ahead, Asbury will host Piedmont University on Wednesday night in Wilmore for the CCS Quarterfinal Round to open up the Conference Tournament. The Eagles conclude the regular season at 9-4-3 overall and 4-2-0 in League play.

STORY - QUOTE
"This was a really important win for us. I've continued to learn that my teammates are like brothers to me now. I'm happy I could make so many good friendships over these four years. I've really worked on my mindset recently and that has helped me a lot. Having my dad here from Germany today meant a lot to me."
