Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Asbury Edged at Covenant in CCS Matchup, 1-0

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga.--- The top two ranked men's soccer teams in the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) met on Saturday evening in Lookout Mountain, Ga., as Asbury men's soccer (8-4-2, 3-2 CCS) was edged in a one-goal match to the Covenant College Scots (10-2-3, 3-0-2 CCS), 1-0.

From early on, Asbury's defense was tested by the Scots on the Covenant Senior Night. A pivotal moment in the match arrived at the 6:42 mark of the first period when Whitt Tisdale of Covenant, assisted by Kade Theunissen, scored the lone goal of the game off a set-piece.

This lead held throughout the match, despite Asbury's game-high 11 shots with four on goal. Will Hicks had three saves in goal for Covenant for their sixth shutout of the season, while CCS Defensive Player of the Week Peyton French had two saves for Asbury with only one goal allowed.

Ryan Kim, Dalton Fleshood, Jason Flaming, and Gavin Howard each had a shot on goal for AU. The Eagles were held scoreless for the first time this season after scoring 11 goals combined in their last two matches.

The Eagles earned five corners on the night and held Covenant to only one in each half. Covenant committed 13 fouls while AU had nine in the physical match. Each team was handed two yellow cards with four total in the match.

Grant Slater, Aiden Fish, and Yousef Ismail each played all 90 minutes for Asbury defensively in the premier CCS matchup.

Reflecting on the match, Asbury now holds an overall record of 8-4-2 with a 3-2-0 line in the CCS. Covenant remains undefeated in the CCS at 3-0-2. The Eagles will host Oakland City on Wednesday night in Wilmore, Ky., and then Huntingdon in Wilmore for Senior Day at 2 pm to complete the 2024 regular season.
