Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Sparks Scores Twice to Propel Asbury Past Piedmont, 3-2

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky.--- In an intense conference face-off, the Asbury women's soccer team (6-4-4, 3-1-1), claimed a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the Piedmont Lions (6-4-3, 4-1) on Thursday afternoon, at the Asbury Soccer Field. Sophomore engineering major Anna Sparks netted two goals on the day to push her season total to six.

The Eagles dominated the first half, securing a 2-0 lead by halftime. The standout performances came from Anna Sparks and Caroline Absher, who were instrumental in Asbury's offensive efforts. Sparks scored two goals, including the crucial game-winning goal, contributing significantly to the Eagles' success. Her final strike at 48:08 in the second half extended Asbury's lead to 3-0, putting pressure on Piedmont to respond.

Despite a late surge by the Lions, AU managed to maintain their lead, thanks largely to the shared goalkeeping efforts of Maliya Crump and Violette Moore. Both goalkeepers played pivotal roles in fending off Piedmont's attacks.

Maggie Perry and Lauren Davis continued to secure the back line, both playing all 90 minutes for the day. Additional support came from Hannah Muncie, whose precise assist to set up Sparks' goal and 78 minutes played helped solidify the team's offensive strategy.

The victory brings Asbury's current record to 6-4-4 overall, with a conference record of 3-1-1.

STORY - QUOTE
"Coach has preached this week on having a lot of side to side movement and get down the line to get the back angle ball as well as the early ball. I feel like we did that well today leading to a win."
