Asbury Slips to Anderson to End Nine-Game Winning Streak

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky.--- The Asbury volleyball team (13-5, 8-0 CCS) dropped their first match since September 18th on Wednesday in the Luce Center as Anderson University (13-4, 1-1 HCAC) took a 3-1 win to snap the AU nine-game winning streak.

The Eagles began the event on a high note, clinching the first set with a score of 25-22. However, the momentum shifted as Anderson secured victories in the subsequent sets with scores of 25-17, 25-22, and 25-6 in the fourth set to seal their win.

Anderson hit for a percentage of .276 on the night while AU was held under .100 for the first time since Sept. 18. AU had seven aces compared to Anderson's five, but Anderson had seven blocks while Asbury had three.

Despite the loss, Asbury freshman and CCS Rookie of the Week Isabelle VandeSchraaf led with 13 kills, her 15th match with double-digit kills this season. Freshman Sophie Glushchak followed close behind with 10 kills, and freshman Abigail Bruner contributed six kills and had a team-high three aces.

On the defensive end it was the CCS Defensive Player of the Week Riley McChord producing 19 digs. Freshman Megan Schelling stood out as well with two blocks, with additional contributions from Bruner and Sidney Haysley who each added a block to their name.

Junior Lucy Kate Gray also directed the Eagles' offense with precision, delivering 22 assists over the course of the match. Supports were also seen from Sara Beth Gray with 11 assists and McChord contributing four assists.

Looking ahead, the Eagles will travel to Macon, Ga., on Saturday for a CCS Tr-Match against LaGrange College and Wesleyan College hosted by Wesleyan. Asbury currently holds season record of 13-5, remaining undefeated in CCS play with an 8-0 record.
