Asbury Draws on the Road Against Huntingdon 2-2; De Sousa Nets First Collegiate Goal


STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
MONTGOMERY, Al.---In a tightly contested conference face-off, the Asbury University women's soccer team (5-4-4) ended in a 2-2 draw against Huntingdon College (3-6-2) on Saturday afternoon at the Samford Soccer Complex. Freshman Media Communcations major Eva De Sousa netted her first collegiate goal, being the equalizer in the match.

The game was neck-and-neck from the get-go, with both teams locked at 2-2 by halftime. Asbury's goals were scored by Anna Sparks and Eva De Sousa, showcasing the team's dynamic offensive capabilities.

Sparks's goal was particularly notable, adding to her season tally of four, while De Sousa's finish highlighted her growing impact on the field. Assisting in Sparks' goal was Hannah Muncie, whose playmaking skills were on full display.

On the defensive end, Eagles' goalkeeper Violette Moore made crucial saves to keep the team in the game, reflecting a solid performance despite the challenging opposition. Huntingdon's goals came from Keabetsoe Walker and Laney Bishop, with Shaylinn McFarland providing an assist, marking key moments for the Hawks. 

Maggie Perry and Lauren Davis continued their stellar defensive play on the back line.

Looking ahead, the Eagles are set to face Piedmont University back home in Wilmore on Thursday, October 17 at 12 PM.

The Eagles currently hold a season record of 5-4-4, with a conference tally of 2-1-1, positioning themselves as contenders as the season progresses down to the final stretch. As they prepare for their next encounter, the team remains focused on blending their strong offensive drives with tightened defense to clinch more wins in the competitive cofernece season ahead.
