Asbury Moves to 8-0 in CCS with Wins Over Huntingdon and Piedmont


STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky.--- Asbury volleyball (12-4, 8-0 CCS) remained undefeated in their CCS opening season on Saturday afternoon with wins over Huntingdon (8-16, 4-4 CCS) and Piedmont (3-12, 3-5 CCS) on their home court in Wilmore, Ky., taking the win streak to nine including the sixth sweep of the run. 

AU took the opening win of the day over Huntingdon with a score of 3-1 and then swept Piedmont with a decisive 3-0 win. The Eagles were in form from the start, besting the Hawks 25-18 in the first set and continuing their winning streak with a 25-21 victory in the second set.

Although Asbury faced a setback in the third set, losing narrowly at 31-33, they clinched the victory by capturing the fourth set at 26-24. Their performance against Piedmont was consistently strong, securing set scores of 25-23, 25-15, and 25-18.

The two-time CCS Rookie of the Week Isabelle VandeSchraaf had one of her most impressive games of the season against Huntingdon, going for 21 kills and 23 digs for her ninth double-double of the season. She led AU with 14 kills in game two as well. 

Junior media communication major Riley McChord led AU on the day in digs and aces with 37 digs and four aces across the two matches. Freshman Abigail Bruner had three blocks against Piedmont while her freshman teammate Amelia Mays had two aces. 

Lucy Kate Gray had 28 assists against Huntingdon and 42 on the day. Emma Grace Gray had 13 kills in the first match while Sophie Glushchak had eight. 


Asbury volleyball now looks ahead to their next matchup after winning nine straight, a home game with Anderson University on Wednesday night in Wilmore at 7 pm.
