STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky.--- The Asbury men's soccer team (0-1-1) competed in their home opener on Friday night against Greenville University (0-2). Both teams fought relentlessly putting up a combined 20 shots for the night, but AU ultimately fell to the Panther's offense and lost in a 2-1 match.

Asbury and Greenville matched with 10 shots each, Greenville putting six on target and Asbury putting four on target. In a tight matchup, both teams combined for 19 fouls and 11 corners.

Sophomore Luke Thomas led the board with four shots, followed by Cameron Johnson with two. Six of AU's players contributed for their 10 shots, while eight of the Panthers made for their 10.

Cameron Johnson was AU's lone goal scorer, found in the 12th minute of the match, assisted by Luke Thomas

After AU put one away in the first half, Greenville quickly retaliated with a goal in the 28th minute. The first half would then remain scoreless by both teams, with AU and Greenville tallying five shots each. Both teams matched for three corners in the first as well.

Despite AU's early momentum, Greenville went on to put another goal away just three minutes into the second half. Andres Garcia was a huge piece for the Panthers, recording an assist on both of Greenville's goals.

Despite Greenville taking the lead with corners in the second, 4-1, the Eagles and the Panthers both recorded five shots each. Keeper Collin Mckibben saved four of the five Panther shots in the second.

Despite late efforts made by the Eagles, Greenville held their lead and took their first win of the season, taking Asbury to 0-2-1.

STORY - QUOTE
"Tough result after a hard-fought match. Inches away from a different outcome. Thought the guys responded well to what was asked of them and did enough to win. We'll grow and adjust and be ready for Sunday."
Ben Andrews | Head Coach
