Reese Bolton Scores Opening Goal at Outdoor Venue; Asbury Draws with Bob Jones

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky. --- Asbury women's soccer (1-4-2) got back on the field Wednesday afternoon to face Bob Jones University (4-0-5). Today's game marked the first AU event held on the Phase One Completed Outdoor Venue as Asbury junior Reese Bolton score the first ever goal on the field. The match was closely contested and went back and forth until the end, with the score resulting in a 2-2 draw.

AU was able to apply a lot of pressure on the offensive side, outshooting Bob Jones, 16-7. Nine of the 16 shots taken by Asbury tonight were on goal. Asbury was led tonight by Reese Bolton and Caroline Absher, who both put up goals. Bolton's was her first career goal as an Asbury Eagle. Maliya Crump headed the defense with three saves on the night.

AU wasted no time to get on the board with a goal from Reese Bolton in the fifth minute of the game, to make the score 1-0. Bolton took the shot pretty far outside the box and struck it well to head in right over the goalie. The goal was nicely set up by Peighton Sowder, who recorded the assist.

Bob Jones attempted the next shot of the night that was saved by Maliya Crump in the 12th minute. AU followed with three shots of their own in the following minutes that would not land on goal.

In the 20th minute the Eagles kept applying the pressure they put on all night with two SOG's coming from Reese Bolton and Maggie Higdon. Both shots were saved in goal and the score remained 1-0.

Bob Jones got on the scoreboard with their first goal of the night in the 30th minute to knot things up at 1-1.

Reese Bolton continued her push on the night with another SOG that was saved by the keeper in the 34th minute. Bolton was all over the field for the Eagles and took the charge to ignite the offense.

In the 42nd minute AU took a halftime lead off a PK from Caroline Absher. The half ended and the Eagles went in with a lead 2-1.

Things started slow in the second half and it wasn't until the 65th minute we saw the first SOG attempted. Bob Jones struck a good ball into the box and would be denied again by keeper Maliya Crump to hold things at 2-1.

AU put up back to back SOG's in the 68th minute from Caroline Absher and Deidra Long but unfortunately could not find the back of the net and things for the meantime would stay 2-1.

Bob Jones had a crucial tying goal in the 74th minute to tie things at 2-2, where the score would stay. Neither team was able to put much of a push together to finish the game, ending the match with a draw.

Asbury put together a tremendous fight against a Bob Jones team who hasn't been beaten this season. Asbury will travel to Greencastle, In., to take on DePauw University, Saturday at 2:30 PM.

"It was a hard fought match both ways. Credit to Bob Jones for pushing our limits in all areas of our game. Played well and created enough chances to take the match, but soccer is a cruel game every once in a while. Excited about the next opportunity to play Saturday against a solid DePauw squad."
