Women's Soccer Drops Road Match to Covenant

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky. --- Asbury women's soccer (1-4-1) took the field Saturday afternoon in Lookout Mountain, Ga., to face Covenant College (2-1-4). Covenant prevailed in a close match, coming out on top, 0-2.

AU was able to put some offensive looks together as the team put a total of 10 shots together with seven of them being on goal. Caroline Absher lead the Eagles offensive charge with four SH and three SOG. Maliya Crump made four saves on the night for the defense.

The game's first shot wasn't taken until the 7th minute off the foot of Covenant. The shot sailed right of the goal and no harm was done.

Covenant would again attack offensively in the 9th minute with another shot that this time, found back net and took an early 0-1 lead.

Asbury would respond with their own SOG of the foot of Reese Bolton in the 10th minute, but was saved by the Covenant goalie to keep things at 0-1. Asbury would have many opportunities on the night but could not seem to capitalize.

In the 27th minute, it was the Nicholasville native Reese Bolton again with another SOG that was saved by Covenant to keep the game at 0-1.

Things got heated up in the 41st minute when Asbury's Caroline put her first of three SOG attempts saved by Covenant. In the same minute the Scots would have their own SOG, that was saved by Maliya Crump, her first of four saves on the afternoon. Absher again in the 42nd minute would put a SOG that was saved and kept the score at 0-1 heading into the half.

Covenant got attacking again early in the 2nd half with a SOG in the 47th minute, that would tally Maliya Crump's second save of the afternoon.

The Scots would keep the pressure on in the 51st minute, where they would score the last goal on a penalty kick. The goal would be the last of the game for either team and the score would stand at 0-2.

Peighton Sowder and Maci Muncie would each put SOG's bottom center in the 73rd and 75th minutes that would both be stopped and prevented by the Scots goalie to keep things at 0-2.

Maliya Crump would complete her last two saves of the match in the 79th and 81st minutes to have the score stand at 0-2.

Caroline Absher would put one last push together for the Eagles, tallying a SOG in the 89th minute that would not find net and the score went final there, 0-2 in favor of Covenant.

Asbury, coming off a game of five goals Wednesday, seemingly could not pick things up where they left off. The team will return back to Wilmore on Wednesday to take on Bob Jones University at 4 PM, and try to get back into the win column.
