Johnson Five Hits and Billington Walk-Off Takes Asbury to 11 Straight


STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky.--- Matthew Johnson's five-hit day and Andrew Billington's two-RBI walkoff double took Asbury (17-10) to 11 straight wins, sweeping UC-Clermont (16-11-1) on Saturday in Wilmore, Ky. 

A 5-4 game one win that AU led from pole to pole was backed up by a 6-5 game two win that saw two runs in the bottom of the ninth with two outs to sweep the doubleheader. 

22 hits on the day for the Asbury offense marks their 10th and 11th consecutive games with double-digit hits. AU needed three two-out hits in the final inning of the day to take their win streak to 11. 

Senior shortstop Matthew Jonson went 5-7 on the day with 4 RBIs while freshman center fielder Andrew Billington went 4-8 with 3 RBIs to lead AU. 

Game One | AU 5, UC-CLERMONT 4
Freshman Cayden Devine got the ball for his fourth career start, grabbing the win to move to 2-0 on 6.0 IP, 3 ER, and 5 K's. Holten Handel came on for 2.1 innings of work with three strikeouts to get his first save of the year. 

AU struck first in the bottom of the third off a Matthew Baker leadoff double who came around to score. Asbury used another leadoff double in the fourth from Andrew Billington to go up 2-0. 

UC-Clermont blasted a solo shot in the fifth but AU responded quickly with four hits and three more runs in the bottom half, going up 5-1. 

The Cougars made their run in the seventh, scoring three runs to get within one, 4-5. Holten Handel finished the inning with a bases loaded full count strikeout to hold UC-Clermont at four. 

Handel didn't allow a run the rest of the game, holding on for Asbury's tenth straight win, 5-4. 

Game Two | AU 6, IUPUC 5
Eli Wilder made his fourth start of the year going five innings with four earned runs and three strikouets. Brody Bearden and Caleb Poll came out of the AU bullpen, Poll grabbing his second win of the year in one innning of work.

The Eagles scored first in the first inning off a Matthew Johnson RBI double but UC-Clermont answered the next inning with three hits for three runs, 3-2. 

Johnson struck again in the third, driving a base hit to left field to score Noah Brown, 2-2. The Cougars regained their lead in the fifth with two runs off RBI singles, 4-2. 

Another run in the sixth gave UC-Clermont their largest lead of the day at 5-2. Asbury answered quickly with a run in the sixth and another in the eighth to get within one at 4-5. 

The Eagles trailed 5-4 in the bottom of the ninth with two outs and nobody on base. Nathaniel Frank beat out an infield single and Noah Brown followed with a single to bring up Andrew Billington. Billington put a 0-1 pitch over the left fielder's head to score Frank and Brown, walking the game off for Asbury's 11th straight win, 6-5. 

AU moves to 17-10 on the year after being 6-10 before the streak.
