WILMORE, Ky.--- Senior right-hander
David Savastio struck out eight Berea hitters on Tuesday night, a career-high to lead Asbury to their 12th straight win, 10-8.
The Asbury (18-10) offense produced double-digit hits for the 12th consecutive game, usingr 15 to score ten runs on the night. Berea (8-24) also had a strong night at the plate, producing 12 knocks for eight runs.
Savastio was perfect through three innings with four strikeouts, and allowed no runs through five innings of work. Asbury's defense was flawless on the night, not committing a single error.
Ethan Cartwright,
Matthew Baker, and
Colton Perkins all had three-hit nights. Perkins and Cartwright each had a double while Baker had a game-high three RBIs and a solo blast over the left field wall.
Noah Brown went 1-1 on the day with three HBP and a walk, scoring a game-high three runs.
Asbury jumped out early in the first with four hits to score three runs.
Ethan Cartwright powered the inning with a double off the right center wall.
A run in the second off three more hits and another run in the third gave AU a strong 5-0 early advantage. Berea got their offense going in the sixth, using four hits including a three-run homer to score four runs and bring the game to 5-4.
Kaden Dugle drove in
Noah Brown with a sacrifice fly in the sixth and then the Eagles used a
Quinn Nobles leadoff triple in the seventh to score three more runs, going ahead 9-4.
Berea got three runs off
Holten Handel in the eighth from three hits, getting the game back to 9-7. Baker blasted his solo shot in the bottom half to extend the lead to 10-7.
Freshman righty
Jack Morris came on in the ninth to get his first career save, securing Asbury's 12th straight win, 10-8.
The Eagles are now 18-10 on the 2023 season and recently received votes for the NCCAA Top 10 Coaches Poll.
