CINCINNATI, Oh. --- Asbury softball traveled to Cincinnati, Oh. to face Mount St. Joseph University in a doubleheader on Thursday evening. The Lions put up impressive offensive efforts against the Eagles, and AU fell in game one, 5-1, and in game two, 9-1.
Taylor Enlow,
Taylor Sanders, and
Abigail Fletcher were the Eagles to grab hits in game one, aiding to AU's lone run of the game. Sanders and Fletcher both went 2-3 at bat.
Josie Deatherage started on the mound for AU and threw one strikeout and allowed four hits.
The Eagles only run in game two came from a home run by
Taylor Enlow to left field. Enlow now leads the team with three home runs on the season. Enlow also started on the mound for Asbury and grabbed one strikeout.
Game One | AU 1, MSJ 5
MSJ grabbed an early lead against the Eagles, grabbing two runs in the first inning. The Lions went on to grab one run per inning for the next three innings, to put them up 5-0 going into the fifth.
In the top of the fifth, after
Olivia Palasek took advantage of MSJ's error by reaching first,
Abigail Fletcher singled to left field advancing Palasek to second.
With a runner in scoring position, KayleyJo Myers came in to pinch hit for AU and sacrificed an out to bring Palasek home for AU's only run of the game.
The rest of the game remained scoreless by both teams and resulted in a loss for AU, 5-1.
The Eagles moved into game two with a record of 7-20.
Game Two | AU 1, MSJ 9
Game two looked similar to the first with MSJ grabbing another early lead.
The Lions grabbed a run in the first and a run in the second to put them up 2-0 going into the third. MSJ's offense showed their skills in the next inning by putting up four more runs.
In the top of the fourth with two outs,
Taylor Enlow hit a home run to left field to give AU their only run of the game. Despite Enlow's homer, AU was not able to pick up on the momentum.
Kaylee Strunk stepped in to pitch in the fourth and grabbed two strikeouts from just 15 pitches thrown.
MSJ went on to grab another three runs and held AU, resulting in a loss for the Eagles, 9-1.
After their loss in game two, Asbury moves to a 7-21 record.
