WILMORE, Ky. --- After three weeks of away games, AU finally returned home to host Shawnee State University as they celebrate and honor their three seniors. Asbury showed their endurance in game one, taking a win over the Bears in a 3-0 game. AU went on to fall in game two, in a battle ending 3-1.
Asbury recognized three seniors for their senior day celebration on Tuesday afternoon. Captains
Abigail Fletcher,
Olivia Palasek, and
Olivia Judy were the three Eagles honored. They are all greatly appreciated for their time and effort given to AU throughout their time here. They are wished the best in their life after Asbury.
Game one was led by senior captain,
Olivia Judy, as she went 2-3 at bat.
Taylor Enlow also grabbed a hit going 1-2 at the plate.
Josie Deatherage took the mound for AU in game one and grabbed her second shutout of the season, only allowing four hits while grabbing four strikeouts.
Game two looked different than the first with AU only grabbing four hits collectively, and one run.
Taylor Enlow grabbed her third triple of the season to help aid to AU's lone run of the game.
Game One | AU 3, SSU 0
Asbury showed up early in game one with
Josie Deatherage grabbing a strikeout from her first batter faced in the game. Deatherage forced two more fly balls to right field to end the top of the first.
Kaitlyn Wilson began the bottom of the first by reaching first on an error.
Kyla Bell came up to the plate and took a hit by pitch to put runners on first and second for AU.
Taylor Enlow hit a sacrifice fly to right field to advance Wilson to third to put runners on the corners of the diamond for AU.
Wilson took advantage of another error by the Bears and came home to give AU their first run of the game.
Natalie Ison and Bell continued to take advantage of Shawnee States decisions and Bell was brought home after Ison reached. AU ended the first up 2-0.
AU continued to hold SSU to no runs into the second. Consecutive singles by
Abigail Fletcher,
Kaitlyn Wilson, and
Taylor Enlow loaded the bases for AU. Asbury was able to bring in another run off a passed ball, making it a 3-0 game.
Although Asbury did not score any more runs in the game, their defense, led by
Josie Deatherage, shutout the Bears and held them to just four hits.
Deatherage grabbed four strikeouts, totaling her at 38 for the year, and leading AU.
After their win from game one, AU moves to a 8-21 record.
Game Two | AU 1, SSU 3
Game two started off slow for both teams as the first three innings remained scoreless.
In the top of the third, it was center fielder
Olivia Palasek to rob the Bears of a runner sent home with a long throw home from center to secure the third out of the inning and deny the run.
The Eagles were the first to bring home a run in the bottom of the fourth, sparked by a triple to deep center field by
Taylor Enlow. Enlow was brought in by
Olivia Judy's sacrifice out to second.
Shawnee State retaliated in the top of the fifth, bringing in two runs to take the lead 2-1.
The Bears kept their lead by shutting the Eagles down for the remainder of the game and bringing in one more of their own runs to end the game 3-1.
After their win in game two, AU moves to a 8-22 record.
