Softball Slips to Thomas More in Road Doubleheader


STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.--- Asbury softball (11-25) fell in their doubleheader with Thomas More on Monday in Crestview Hills, Ky. AU had a close first game of 7-6, and a challenging game two that ended short in a run-rule, 8-0.

Olivia Judy and co-captains Taylor Enlow and Taylor Sanders helped lead AU with nine hits, four runs, and three RBIs combined on the day.

The AU offense produced 12 hits between both games with six runs and four stolen bases.

Game One | ASBURY 7, THOMAS MORE 6
Thomas More's offense scored runs early on, bringing five runners home within the first three innings and holding the Eagles to zero runs to keep their lead, 5-0.

The Eagles began to push in the top of the fourth, loading the bases early in the inning.
AU's first run was brought in off a Tori Giurgevich walk to bring home Taylor Enlow.
As the bases remained loaded, Taylor Sanders came home during Abby Fletcher's RBI ground-out to set the score 2-5.
The Saints went on to score one more run in the bottom of the fourth to increase their lead 2-6.

AU went on to add four more runs thanks to a Taylor Sanders 2 RBI double in the top of the fifth, and a collection of two singles from Taylor Enlow and a single from Natalie Ison. The Eagles' effort tied the game 6-6 going into the bottom of the sixth.
The Saints broke the tie with a home run in the bottom of the sixth before being stopped by AU's defense.

Despite their late push, Asbury was unable to come up with a run in the top of the seventh, falling to Thomas More in a close battle, 7-6.

Game Two | ASBURY 0, THOMAS MORE 8
It was Thomas More to strike first again, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first.

The Saints then brought home a streak of five more runs, continuing to hold the Eagles to zero runs as a run-rule ended play after five innings.

The Eagles fought through the game with four hits from across the board and three strikeouts from starting pitcher Josie Deatherage's three innings pitched.

AU now moves to a record of 11-25 on the year.
