BEREA, Ky.--- A clean defensive day and 18 runs in two games gave Asbury softball (11-23) the doubleheader sweep over Berea College on Saturday in Berea, Ky.
Five hits from junior
Taylor Enlow on the day including two doubles, a triple, and her fourth home run of the year powered Asbury's offense. Enlow went 5-7 with six RBIs, taking her to a team-high 29 RBIs.
Taylor Sanders, Olivia Palasec, and
Abby Fletcher also had a multi-game on the day. Sanders went for two doubles in game one while Palasec drove in a career-high five RBIs in game two.
The AU offense produced 10 hits in game one and nine in game two for their 18 total runs. For the second time this season Asbury's defense went a full doubleheader with no errors.
Game One | ASBURY 9, BEREA 1
Sophomore right-hander
Josie Deatherage got the start in game one, going five innings with six strikeouts and only one earned run to pick up her fourth win. It was the sixth complete game for Deatherage as a run-rule ended play after five innings.
AU struck first in the top of the third off a
Taylor Enlow walk that eventually ended in the first run of the game. Four hits in the fourth led by an Enlow triple and doubles from
Taylor Sanders and
Natalie Ison took Asbury's lead to 5-0.
Berea notched a run in the fourth but AU went for two more doubles in the fifth from Sanders and Enlow, adding four more runs, 9-1. Deatherage finished the game in the fifth to secure the game one victory.
Game Two | ASBURY 9, BEREA 0
Kaylee Strunk was dominant on the mound for Asbury in game two, striking out seven with no earned runs and only three hits. Strunk threw her second complete game shutout of the year, taking her fifth win.
AU's offense used a two-out rally in the second inning with a
Kaitlyn Wilson RBI double and
Taylor Enlow three-run blast to go up 4-0 early.
After two and half scoreless innings,
Olivia Palasek drove in three more Eagles with a two-out bases loaded single, 7-0. Palasec struck again in the seventh with a two-RBI single to right field for her fourth and fifth RBIs of the game, putting AU up 9-0.
Strunk struck out two in the final half inning of her seven strikeouts on the day to secure Asbury's doubleheader sweep.
AU has now won four of their last six and moves to 11-23 on the year.
