COLUMBIA, Ky. --- Asbury softball faced long time opponent Lindsey Wilson for a double header on the Blue Raiders' home turf in Columbia, Ky.
The Eagles grabbed a shutout in game one, taking the victory over Lindsey Wilson 6-0. Despite AU's powerful offense in game one, they were unable to replicate their offensive success in game two, falling 9-1 to split the double header.
Asbury's offense and defense showed off their skills in game one, grabbing a shutout over the Blue Raiders, with huge hits by
Kaitlyn Wilson and
Isabel Rochemont.
Josie Deatherage led the Eagles' defense throwing eight strikeouts on the game.
The Eagles were unable to carry their momentum into game two, falling to Lindsey Wilson with AU's sole run coming from
Natalie Ison's homer.
Game One | AU 6, LWC 0
Game one started out slow, with the first four innings scoreless among both teams, as Asbury's defense held the Blue Raiders to only two hits.
Olivia Palasek sparked Asbury's momentum in the top of the fifth with a single to third base.
Taylor Enlow followed with a double to deep center to put runners in scoring position. AU grabbed their first two runs after Palasek and Enlow both came home on a wild pitch.
Asbury's defense continued strong through the bottom of the fifth, holding Lindsey Wilson to only one hit.
The top of the sixth began with
Marlee Pettit reaching first on an error.
Abigail Fletcher then singled to short and Pettit advanced to third on an error to put runners on the corners of the diamond. Pettit was brought home by
Isabel Rochemont's drive to left field, putting runners on first and second with AU up 3-0.
After
Kaitlyn Wilson doubled, all runners took advantage of the Blue Raiders' continued errors, and Rochemont and Fletcher both came home to increase the Eagles' lead to 5-0. After
Olivia Palasek sacrificed an out to bring home Wilson, the Eagles securely went into the seventh inning ahead 6-0.
Freshman
Josie Deatherage took the mound in game one for the Eagles, grabbing a season high of eight strikeouts allowed only two walks.
From 31 batters faced, Deatherage only allowed eight hits and zero runs.
The Eagles moved into game two with a record of 6-16.
Game Two | AU 1, LWC 9
After a scoreless inning for both teams, the Eagles'
Natalie Ison blasted her first home run of her college career to provide AU's lone hit of the inning.
Lindsey Wilson retaliated in the bottom of the second with two runs to take the lead 2-1 going into the third.
Similar to the first inning, neither team was able to bring runners home in the third inning.
Despite two hits from AU, the Eagles were unable to bring runners home in the top of the fourth.
The Blue Raiders continued to push, increasing their lead to 4-1 after bringing in two more runs.
In the fifth inning, Asbury was unable to bring home any more runners.
The fifth looked different for Lindsey Wilson, as they scored four more runs to make it an 8-1 game.
The game ended in the bottom of the sixth with Lindsey Wilson scoring another run to make it a 9-1 game, ending the game for the Eagles.
The Eagles now move to a record of 6-18 on the season.
