Fort and Shearer Named NCCAA All-Americans

GREENVILLE, SC. --- Asbury men's basketball forward Nick Fort and women's basketball guard Trinity Shearer were recently named National Christian College Athletics Association (NCCAA) All-Americans for their outstanding 2022-2023 seasons.

Nick Fort, an Asbury MBA student from Shelbyville, Ky., was honored as an NCCAA First Team All-American for his incredible final season at AU. The six-foot-six forward finished the year averaging 23.9 points (second in the NCCAA) and 10.6 rebounds (first in the NCCAA) per game to average a double-double. He racked up a total of 18 double-doubles, one more than his previous career-high at 17 in 2021-2022.

In the 27 games Fort played he produced five 30-point games and five games with at least 15 rebounds, grabbing 16 boards three separate times. Nick shot 51.8 percent from the field and 36 percent from three for a career-high 645 points in the season. Other career-highs for Fort included 84 assists, 34 steals, and 111 made free-throws.

Concluding a memorable three season career for Asbury men's basketball, Fort finishes his time at AU with career numbers of 21.3 points per game, 10.2 rebounds per game, 1,531 points, and 732 rebounds. Asbury has gone 52-25 since Fort came to campus, won an NCCAA Mideast Region Championship and taken two trips to the NCCAA National Tournament.

Trinity Shearer, an elementary education major from Stanford, Ky., was recognized as an NCCAA Third Team All-American after her impressive junior season Asbury women's basketball. The five-foot-ten versatile guard averaged 13.3 points per game and finished the year with the second most steals in a season in Asbury history, 75. Nine steals on January 12th against CU-Harrodsburg marked a career-high. Shearer passed her previous career-high in steals (71) while her teammate Haleigh Releford took 74 steals of her own, putting her in third place for Asbury steals in a season.

An essential part of the AU offense, Shearer tied Jaclynn Ruble for a team-high in assists on the year with 90. Trinity produced seven games with at least five assists, reaching a season-high on March 3rd with seven against Kentucky Christian in the NCCAA Region Championship. Three 20-point games with a season-high of 24 where Shearer was one steal away from a double-double highlighted her sensational junior campaign.

Asbury women's basketball has gone 55-24 since Shearer joined the program, winning an NCCAA Mideast Region Championship and taking two trips to the NCCAA National Championship. In three seasons Shearer has now scored 850 points, grabbed 184 steals, and dished 214 assists.
