Eagles Sweep IUPUC to Take Win Streak to Six

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky.--- Another impressive offensive performance from Asbury baseball (12-10) extended their winning streak to six in a row, as they swept IUPUC on Thursday night in Wilmore, Ky., 13-12 and 22-5.

The Eagles have now scored 92 runs combined in the six-game stretch beginning last Friday. Asbury's defense has stood firm behind the offense, committing only six errors in the streak for an average of one mishap per game.

27 total hits and only one error on the day led AU to their second consecutive sweep. Ten different Eagles secured hits on the day, eight of those players producing multi-hit days.

Noah Brown and Andrew Billington led the day at the plate, each going 4-7 with home runs. Billington scored six runs with five RBIs while Brown scored three runs and drove in six.

Game One | AU 19, MUW 4
IUPUC came out swinging in the first inning off freshman starter Cayden Devine, slapping two doubles to go ahead 3-0 after one.

AU answered with a run in the second and then exploded in the third for eight runs on four hits. A Matthew Johnson RBI double and Noah Brown two-RBI triple to center field powered the inning, giving AU a 9-3 advantage.

IUPUC responded strongly in the fourth, putting up seven hits in the inning alone to score nine runs. The Crimson Pride knocked Devine out after 3.1 innings and got three hits and a walk on Caleb Poll before he was replaced by Holten Handel. Handel allowed a single and a double to the Pride before gettting out of the inning, trailing IUPUC 9-12.

In a scheduled seven inning game the slugfest kept going, Asbury adding a run in the fourth from Matthew Baker coming around to score after a leadoff double. AU scratched three more runs in the fifth to grab back the 13-12 lead, powered by a Billington double and a key Quinn Nobles two-RBI double to left-center.

Handel settled in to keep IUPUC at 12, grabbing his second win of the season to take game one of the day for AU.

Game Two | AU 10, MUW 3
Game two of the day was controlled by the Asbury offense, using 17 hits to score 22 runs.

IUPUC did score three early runs once again, taking a 3-0 lead on Asbury freshman right-hander Brody Bearden. The AU offense finally got on the board in the third, tying the game off Andrew Billington's three-run shot over the left field wall.

AU went on to score three more in the third to grab a 6-3 lead, and then scored six more across the fourth and fifth to go up 12-5. Noah Brown blasted a grand slam over the left field wall in the fifth to give AU four of their runs.

Brody Bearden went 3.0 innings in his start, giving up two earned runs and struck out three to grab his team-leading fourth win of the year. Freshmen Jack Parker and Cody Akridge also gave quality appearances for AU out of the bullpen.

Nathaniel Frank, Andrew Billington, and Tyler Hewlett all had three hits in the game.

Asbury added ten more runs in the sixth and then held IUPUC in the top of the seventh for the game to be called after seven innings.

The Eagles move to 12-10 on the season, going above .500 for the first time since February.

STORY - QUOTE

Great pitching performances, very solid at bats, and some outstanding defensive plays today. Two very good wins against a solid team. Got to keep it going into the second half of the season!"
Noah Brown | Senior Infielder

"We came, we saw, we conquered. Simple as that. We looked to burn the boats and fight to the end."
Andrew Billington | Freshman Outfielder
