WILMORE, Ky. --- Asbury softball faced Hanover College for a late-night double header on their home field in Wilmore, Ky.
The Eagles were unable to compete with the Panthers' powerful offense, falling 12-1 in game one, and dropping to Hanover in game two 12-5.
Game one was tough for AU, as they were only able to find one run off of a walk.
Taylor Enlow and
Olivia Palasek in game one, both grabbing two hits.
The Eagles found stronger footing in game two and collectively grabbed 12 hits, with
Taylor Sanders leading with three.
Kaitlyn Wilson,
Olivia Judy, and
Karly Fetter grabbed two hits each, with Fetter snagging two RBIs.
Game One | AU 1, HC 12
Hanover began the game on top, grabbing two in the top of the first.
Asbury failed to find momentum in the top of the first, making it a quick inning.
In the top of the second, the Panthers grabbed one more to make it a 3-0 ballgame.
In the bottom of the second, with a runner on first, hits from
Olivia Palasek and
Marlee Pettit helped load the bases for AU.
Kaitlyn Wilson was walked with bases loaded to give AU their first run of the game, setting the score 3-1.
The third and fourth innings were scoreless for both teams, going into the top of the fifth 3-1.
In the top of the fifth, Hanover put up another run, and Asbury was unable to respond, leaving the score 4-1 at the end of the fifth.
Throughout the final two innings of the game, the Panthers increased scored eight more runs to make it a 12-1 game, as the Eagles were unable to bring in any more runs.
The Eagles moved into game two with a record of 5-16.
Game Two | AU 5, HC 12
The Panthers had another early lead in game two with a two RBI home run to left center.
In the bottom of the first, the Eagles were unable to answer back, going into the second inning 2-0.
Hanover gained two more runs in the top of the second, increasing their lead 4-0.
Olivia Palasek was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the second to get on base for AU. She then advanced to second on a wild pitch to put her in scoring position.
Karly Fetter then singled up the middle to put runners on the corners of the diamond.
Next designated player,
Marlee Pettit, reached first on a fielder's choice by second base, which brought home Palasek and gave Asbury their first run of the game, setting the score 4-1.
After Hanover grabbed another run in the top of the third, they continued to respond with a three RBI home run to left center to increase their lead over AU 8-1.
Asbury pushed hard in the bottom of the third, starting with
Taylor Enlow and
Taylor Sanders both hitting a single to get two on base.
Enlow then scored on a wild pitch that also moved Sanders to third.
With Sanders on third,
Olivia Palasek walked and took second, followed by
Olivia Judy reaching on an error to load the bases for AU.
With bases loaded,
Karly Fetter singled through the left side to move all the runners up one base. After an error from right field, the runners then advanced again, giving Fetter a two RBI bringing Sanders and Palasek home for the Eagles' third and fourth run.
AU grabbed one more run on the inning off of a hit by
Kaitlyn Wilson to bring Stephanie Keepers home and make it an 8-5 ball game at the bottom of the third.
The next four innings remained scoreless with the exception of Hanover grabbing four more runs in the top of the sixth and ultimately winning the game 12-5.
The Eagles now move to a record of 5-17 on the season.
