WILMORE, Ky.--- Asbury baseball (9-10) completed their weekend sweep over MUW (2-12) on Saturday afternoon with a 13-7 win in Wilmore, Ky.
The Asbury offense produced their third double-digit hit game of the series, this time with 13 hits and 13 runs to finish the weekend with 42 runs combined. The AU defense committed only one error on the day and only three on the weekend.
Ethan Cartwright,
Quinn Nobles, and
Andrew Billington each had three hits on the day for Asbury. Billington had a game-high four runs scored, Cartwright produced four RBIs, and Nobles drove in two.
AU freshman right-hander
Brody Bearden got the nod from Coach Cervantes for his fourth career start and made it count, going 4.0 innings with three strikeouts to receive his team-high third win of the season. Freshman
Jack Morris closed out the game with 3.2 innings of work out of the bullpen of three-hit work and only two earned runs.
After MUW punched first with two runs in the top of the first, Asbury responded with a five spot in the bottom half.
Ethan Cartwright led the inning with a three-run blast over the right field wall, his second of the year.
Cartwright had nine hits and nine RBIs on the weekend, sitting at a team-high 19 RBIs.
RBI singles from
Quinn Nobles and Cartwright in the second extended the Asbury lead to 7-2.
Kaden Dugle produced two of his four RBIs on the day in the fourth, scoring
Matthew Johnson and
Andrew Billington.
MUW was led on the day by Avery Benson, going 2-4 with four RBIs and a two-run home run. MUW cut the AU lead to 9-5 in the sixth after Benson went deep in the fifth and then gave a sac fly in the sixth.
Asbury's offense responded with a run in the sixth and three in the seventh to extend their lead back to 13-5. MUW scored two with two outs in the ninth but was put away by
Jack Morris after that.
Asbury completes their first sweep of the season to move to 9-10 on the year.
