Asbury Offense Explodes in Game One, Drop Game Two to Split with Mount St. Joseph

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
MILLINGTON, Tn.--- Asbury baseball (3-2) scored 11 runs on 15 hits to take an 11-5 win in game one on Friday over MSJ (1-1), then fell in game two to MSJ, 3-19. AU and MSJ will play another doubleheader Saturday to complete their four game series in Millington, Tn., at the USA Baseball Complex. 

Ethan Cartwright went 4-6 on the day with a double, RBI, and two runs scored. Kaden Dugle produced three RBIs, three hits, three runs scored, and a double all in game one of the day. 

Matthew Baker followed Dugle with a three-hit game of his own in game one, driving in two Asbury runs as well. Noah Brown and Jackson Cole both had two hits in game one. 

Game One
Cole not only had two hits in game one but got the start on the mound and went five complete innings with four earned runs, three strikeouts, and only one walk. 

Junior Eli Wilder came in the game for AU in the sixth, pitching two innings with three strikeouts and no runs allowed to shut the door. 

MSJ took an early lead with two runs in the first and a three-run blast in the third to go up 5-0. Asbury's offense woke up in the bottom of the third to score six runs, taking the 6-5 advantage. AU had five singles and a Nathaniel Frank double in the inning. 

Asbury kept their offense going in the fifth, scoring four more runs on five hits to push their lead to 10-5. Noah Brown started the rally with a leadoff single, Kaden Dugle chipped in with a two RBI double. 

After the five early runs from MSJ, Cole and Wilder didn't allow another Lion run in the game. Asbury added one more run in the sixth off a Matthew Baker single, securing the game one win, 11-5. Cole moves to 1-0 on the season. 

Game Two
MSJ answered Asbury's convincing game one win with 13 hits of their own in game two, including a grand slam. The Lions scored two runs in the first but AU responded with two their own in the bottom half to tie things at two. 

Asbury took the lead in the second off a Josh Head leadoff double who was driven in by junior Jacob Smith, giving the Eagles a 3-2 edge. 

AU held their lead until the fourth with MSJ used four free bases and three hits to score six runs, taking back the lead at 8-3. 

MSJ starter Brice McGee setlled in after allowing three runs to hold Asbury's offense to no runs in his final three innings of work. 

The Lions took advantage of the AU pitching staff struggling to find the zone in the seventh, scoring 11 runs on four hits, including a grand slam. 

MSJ went on to take the second game of the day to split the doubleheader on day one of the two day series.
