DANVILLE, Ky. --- The Asbury men's tennis team traveled to Danville, Ky. to take on a new competitor, Hampden-Sydney College in a 3 pm match. Asbury brought the heat in doubles going undefeated and ultimately leading to a 8-1 win over HSC.
AU is coming off an impressive win against rival Transylvania University in a 7-2 match.
Gregorio Ingles and
Alejandro Caceres began the doubles drive in match one taking an 8-6 win. The Eagles and the Tigers went point-for-point, until AU came back from 6-5 deficit and grabbed three straight points for the match win.
Yousef Ismail and
Joseph Lewis followed behind and took AU's second doubles win against HSC in an 8-6 match. Ismail and Lewis held a strong lead over the Tigers and didn't allow HSC to grab a lead at all in match two.
Freshmen
Franco Patino and
Ignacio Ardiles grabbed a huge win for AU in match three and held the Tigers to only two points, while grabbing eight of their own. After HSC grabbed their second point, Patino and Ardiles pushed five straight points over their opponent to find the win.
At the number one spot for singles,
Gregorio Ingles gained a large lead in his first match, and was able to hold his opponent until a victory.
Franco Patino saw spot three for AU's singles, taking the lead 5-2 in set one, sealing his win 6-3. In set two, Patino went point for point with his competitor until he took the lead and held Kendrick to four points, winning the match 6-4.
Ignacio Ardiles went 6-3 in both sets, holding him to 5-1 in the first set until he won 6-3. The second set was a closer game, as they went point for point, but Ardiles was still able to come out on top 6-3, taking the number four singles victory.
At the fifth spot, the Eagles'
Yousef Ismail had an early 2-1 lead, and then scored four consecutive to win the set, 6-1. The second set was similar, with Ismail holding his opponent to a 3-1 lead, but wasn't able to match Ismail's talent, ending the second set 6-3. Ismail's strong performance earned him the win over the fifth singles spot.
Alejo Britos held the sixth spot for singles, winning his first set 6-3 after going point for point. In his second set, Britos had a 4-1 lead, coming out on top with a score of 6-2 at the end of the set. Britos obtained a strong win as part of the Eagles' outstanding performance.

"On paper we were the better team; however, we approached the match knowing that any lost opportunity could make us struggle. During the week, Coach Miller oriented our drills to prepare us specificially for this matchup, which allowed us to be well equipped to take today's win."
