WILMORE, Ky. --- Asbury softball had their home opener on Wednesday night in a double-header against Lindsey Wilson. Asbury fought in two hard battles against the Blue Raiders but could not combat Lindsey Wilson's powerful offense and lost game one 5-1 and fell in game two 8-5.
Taylor Enlow was AU's biggest aid on the offensive side of things against the Blue Raiders and contributed an RBI double in game one and a massive home run in game two, her first of the season. Enlow went for six hits on the day with three doubles and a home run.Â
Off of her home run and multiple hits in game two, Enlow helped bring in three of the Eagles' five runs for the game.
Natalie Ison was another contributor to AU's runs, including a powerful 2 RBI triple to center field and a sacrifice fly RBI.
In the second game,
Josie Deatherage was huge on the mound for the Eagles with 115 pitches and six strikeouts, only allowing four hits.
Tori Giurgevich, a freshman for AU, had 38 pitches in two innings, recording two strikeouts.
Game One:Â
In game one Asbury and Lindsey Wilson had a quick two innings, with only one hit recorded by the Blue Raiders in the first.Â
It was not until the top of the third that Lindsey Wilson began to find some hits. Unable to produce, the game went into the bottom of the third with AU finding slight momentum with hits from
Abby Fletcher and
Kaitlyn Wilson.
Unfortunately, AU was still not able to capitalize on having a runner in scoring position at the bottom of the third.Â
The Blue Raiders found momentum in the top of the fourth with a big home run to give them a 2-0 lead over AU.
The Eagles remained scoreless despite Enlow's lone hit with a double down the left field line.
The fifth inning was another short one, with neither team able to make something happen.
Lindsey Wilson had a solo home run at the top of the sixth, increasing their lead to 3-0.
Enlow's double to center field helped put AU on the board at the bottom of the fifth by bringing in senior
Olivia Palasek.
At the top of the seventh, Lindsey Wilson scored two additional runs on the evening, setting their lead to 5-1.
Asbury was unable to answer in the bottom of the seventh, leaving the Blue Raiders to top, ending the first game 5-1.
The Blue Raiders were led by their designated player, Amanda Schick, with three RBIs, two hits, and one home run.
This set the Eagles into Game Two with a 1-6 record.
Game Two:Â
The game began slow with neither team able to put up a run.
Lindsey Wilson grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the second inning, bringing in two runs and a solo home run.
In the bottom of the second, the Eagles were able to bring in
Taylor Enlow off of a sacrifice fly from
Natalie Ison.
At the top of the third, the Blue Raiders retaliated and scored an unearned run off of a fielder's choice.
In the bottom of the third, the Eagles were able to load their bases, but were unable to capitalize on their situation, leaving the inning with no runs.
The Blue Raiders grabbed two more runs at the top of the fourth.
Natalie Ison was brought home at the end of the fourth off of a powerful double from
Kyla Bell.
The top of the fifth was silent for Lindsey Wilson, but the bottom of the fifth was big for Asbury, as
Taylor Enlow brought in a solo home run. This was her first for the season.
The sixth inning was scoreless for both teams.
The top of the seventh saw Lindsey Wilson score two more runs off of a line drive.
In the bottom of the seventh,
