CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. --- Asbury softball traveled to Campbellsville, Ky. to take on the Tigers in a doubleheader. The Eagles and the Tigers fought two hard battles and the Tigers were victorious in both games, resulting in two losses for AU. In game one the Eagles fell 7-2, and were unable to pick up momentum in the second game, dropping 5-2.
Game One:
AU took on the Tigers for game one at 1 PM and was looking to make a statement early in. Despite the early lead Asbury grabbed, CU fought back and won the ball game 7-2.
Olivia Palasek began the early charge for AU with a single up the middle to give AU one runner on base in the top of the first.
Taylor Enlow copied Palasek's drive and took her spot on first and Palasek reached third on an error from CU.
Olivia Judy's single to right center brought Palasek home to give AU their lone run of the inning.
Asbury held their 1-0 lead through the top of the third and even brought another one home in the top of the third.
Kaitlyn Wilson found a walk to first, and stole second immediately after to put herself in scoring position.
After a sacrifice hit from
Olivia Palasek to advance Wilson to third,
Taylor Sanders drove one to right field to bring Wilson home and AU took their 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth.
Campbellsville completely changed the tone of the game in the bottom of the fourth, with No. 3 Lexi Miller getting a home run with bases loaded, giving the Tigers a quick 4-2 lead.
CU's defense held Asbury to their two runs for the rest of the game, all while grabbing three more runs, to give them a win in a 7-2 ball game.
Game Two:
In game two of the day Campebellsville struck first, scoring three runs in the bottom of the second powered by a two-run blast to left center from Madison Davis. The Tigers added a third run in the inning off an RBI ground out.
AU answered firmly in the next half inning with
Taylor Sanders' first career home run for Asbury, a two-run shot of her own to left center scoring
Isabel Rochemont.
Asbury couldn't manage to add any more runs in the game and gave up two more to Campbellsville, dropping game two of the day 2-5.
After competing on the road with a strong NAIA opponent, AU moves to 1-5 to start the 2023 season.
