Asbury Celebrates Senior Day with 10th Win; Beats UC-Clermont, 3-1


STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky.--- Asbury volleyball (10-15) celebrated Senior Day on Saturday afternoon with their 10th win of the season, beating UC-Clermont (13-13), 3-1. The Eagles honored senior, Brynna Reynolds, a five-foot-three defensive specialist from Indianapolis, In., graduating with a degree in Biochemistry. 

AU had one of their strongest offensive matches of the season in their final match, tying a season high in kills (60) and assists (58). Four Eagles had double-digit kills including Emma Grace Gray (16), Sidney Haysley (15), Macie Pack (13), and McKenna Rumage (10). 
Lucy Kate Gray 2023 1K Assists
Lucy Kate Gray was honored before the match for reaching 1,000 career assists as an Asbury Eagle. She reached the mark on September 27th against Hanover College in a match she recorded 38 assists in. 

Gray backed up the recognition with her third-most assists ever in a match for AU, dishing 51 on the day. Gray finished the season with 736 total assists on the season, dishing 40 or more seven times in 2023. 

Riley McChord finished her stellar defensive sophomore campaign with 18 digs on Saturday, taking her to 393 on the year. Freshman Ariana Bluestein capped her freshman season with 12 digs, taking her to 106 this season. 

Macie Pack had three aces with her 13 kills, finishing the season with 188 kills. Sidney Haysley's 15 kills takes her to 201 overall on the year, just ahead Megan Walden with 199. 

Asbury hit for an efficient .201 percentage as a team. UC-Clermont was held to 24 digs on the night by the AU defense. 

Set-by-Set Recap 

Set One

An Asbury four-point swing halfway through the first set powered by kills from Macie Pack, Megan Wladen, and Sidney Haysley was the boost AU needed to go ahead 16-11. The Eagles scored six straight points to go ahead 23-13 soon after, finishing the match with an Ariana Bluestein ace to take the first set, 25-14. 

Set Two
UC-Clermont went ahead 7-4 early in the second set but AU roared back with a four-point swing led by Rumage and Gray kills, regaining the lead 8-7. The Eagles used another run when they scored six straight, five of those off Riley McChord's serve to go up 17-10. AU carried the lead to a 25-20 win, going up 2-0. 

Set Three
The Cougars used their best run of the day in the third set, scoring seven straight to take a 16-14 lead halfway through the set. AU fought back, using an Emma Grace Gray kill to go ahead 22-21 late in the set. UC-Clermont scored the next four points to win the set, 25-22. 

Set Four
In their last set of the 2023 season, Asbury excelled with a 25-17 win to take the match. The Eagles used a four-point swing and two three-point swings to finish, taking their 10th win of the season. 

Asbury completes the season with a 10-15 record, doubling the win amount from last season in Coach Horton's second year leading AU.
