WILMORE, Ky.--- Senior guard
Caleb Wallis scored 13 of his 22 points in the final three minutes to complete the Asbury men's basketball (2-0) comeback win over Berea College (1-1) on Tuesday night in the Luce Center, 80-70.
Wallis went 6-12 from the field with four threes, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
Ben McNew also went 6-12, scoring 16 points with four boards and two assists.
Clayton Winter added 15 points for AU, going 7-10 from the field with nine rebounds for the second straight game.
Dakota Walden led Asbury on the glass with 11 rebounds, adding nine points and two assists. Transfer guard
Aden Slone led the AU offense with seven assists, also going 4-8 for 11 points and three rebounds.
The Eagles took advantage of the free-throw line once again, going 15-19 compared to Berea at 13-22. AU turned Berea over 15 times and score 20 points off turnovers.
Asbury shot 55% in the second half including five threes to score 50 points. For the second time in two games the AU defense stepped up into the second half, holding Berea to 32 points after 38 in the first.
Bryce Riley put Berea up 21-14 halfway through the first with a dunk to cap the Mountaineer's 8-0 run. Berea continued the offensive success throughout the first half, going into the break ahead 38-30.
After Berea went up 43-31 with 19:00 to go in the second half,
Ashton Owens made key three-pointer for AU to bring things within nine. Berea stretched their lead to double-digits again, 48-37 but
Ben McNew made another big three to bring AU to 40-48.
The Eagles trailed 67-63 with 3:30 to go when
Caleb Wallis went on a 11-1 run by himself with three three-pointers, putting Asbury ahead 74-68. The Eagles made all six of their final free-throws to finish off the comeback win.
AU moves to 2-0 this season with the victory.
