Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Settles for 1-1 Tie Against Wittenberg

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
SPRINGFIELD, Oh. --- Asbury women's soccer (1-5-3) traveled to Springfield, Oh., to take on Wittenberg University (2-5-4) in a Wednesday night matchup. The two teams each converted one goal and ended the game with a 1-1 draw.

AU was able to get off seven shots on the night with four resulting in shots on goal (SOG). Wittenberg was able to get a little more pressure on the Eagles defense as they were able to get off 14 shots with six of those as SOG.

Maci Muncie, Reese Bolton, Mary Hostetter, and Caroline Absher were able to get SOG for the Eagles with Muncie converting her's into a goal for her second of the season. Senior captain Madie Boehnlein picked up the assist on the goal for her first of the season. Goalkeeper Violette Moore had another impressive showing in her second start of the season, allowing just one goal with five saves.

It was Wittenberg that put the pressure on early with five shots in the opening 18 minutes of play. Two of those shots resulted in SOG that were saved by AU's Violette Moore. Moore has stepped up big in goal for the Eagles as of recent and has continued to build on good performances.

Mary Tidei attempted AU's first shot of the night, but missed wide right in the 31st minute. The rest of the half saw just each team take one more shot apiece coming from Wittenberg's Ashley Green and Asbury's Deidra Long, both were off target and the teams went into the half knotted up at 0.

Wittenberg struck early in the second half and was able to collect their first goal of the night off a corner kick in the 48th minute to take the lead, 0-1. This was the only blemish on Moore's stat line and remained perfect the rest of the match.

Wittenberg held more pressure on the Eagles at the beginning of the second half with four more shots in the next 15 minutes of play, none were put on goal and the score remained 0-1 in favor of the Tigers.

Caroline Absher got in on the action for AU in the 63rd minute with her own SOG that was saved by the Tigers. Wittenberg would put two SOG attempts that were saved by Violette Moore in the 65th and 70th minutes to keep the score at 0-1.

AU struck net in the 72nd minute off the foot of freshman Maci Muncie for her second goal of the season. Senior captain Madie Boehnlein was able to collect her first assist on the season on the score. The big goal netted things up at 1-1.

Reese Bolton and Mary Hostetter were able to put SOG's in the 86th and 89th minutes for the last offensive push but both were saved by the Tiger's keeper and the game ended at 1-1.

Asbury comes home on Saturday night to take on Georgetown College at 7 PM in Wilmore, Ky for the Eagles Senior Night.
