GRANDS RAPIDS, Mi. --- The Asbury men's soccer team (10-2-4) hit the road on Saturday to take on NCCAA opponent Grace Christian University (5-7-4) in their last matchup of the regular season. The Eagles, led by
Ryan Kim with two goals, pushed past the Tigers and secured their tenth victory in a 5-1 match.
Ryan Kim led AU, grabbing two goals with one coming in each half. Kim led the Eagles with shots, putting six up with three on goal.
Other goal scorers for AU included
Austin Dunlap,
Nick Eller, and
Salat Kipterit. Dunlap's goal against the Tigers puts him at seven for the year, still leading the Eagles and setting a career-high for him.
Asbury would be first to get on the scoreboard with
Ryan Kim putting on away in the 24th minute, assisted by
Dalton Fleshood.
Austin Dunlap found the back of the net with a minute remaining in the first to give Asbury a strong 2-0 lead going into the second.
The Tigers found quick momentum in the second, scoring their lone goal of the match just five minutes in.
Nick Eller was quick to respond for AU, putting their third goal away two minutes later.
A right footer of a ball by
Luke Thomas would give
Ryan Kim his second goal of the match, and AU's fourth.
Salat Kipterit was the final Eagle to find the back of the net, assisted by
Luke Thomas again, to put AU up 5-1 with 24 minutes remaining.
The Eagle's defense continued to hold the Tigers to their one goal for the remainder of the match and secured their victory over GCC.
Both sides of AU played well, with Asbury outshooting Grace Christian 18-6. The Eagles remain undefeated on the road with six wins and two ties.
Asbury will conclude their regular season with a record of 10-2-4. This is Asbury's highest winning percentage in the last 16 years. AU now sits at No. 6 in the NCCAA with a scoring average of 2.40 and No. 4 for goals allowed with .93.

The Eagles have concluded their regular season and will begin to prepare for post-season competition with the NCCAA. The NCCAA Mid-East Regional Tournament will be held in Wilmore, Ky. Dates, times, and opponents are TBD.
