CARLINVILLE, IL. --- The Asbury men's soccer team (5-2-3) traveled to Carlinville, IL., to take on Blackburn College (1-8-2) for the first time ever Monday afternoon. The Eagles secured an impressive 3-0 win to mark their fourth shutout in a row and keeper
Peyton French's fifth clean sheet of the year.
Asbury has now won five of their last seven contests with a scoring margin of 14-3 during the run.
All three goals for AU came in second half against Blackburn,
Austin Dunlap going first with an assist by
Pascal Muller in the 53rd minute. Dunlap now has five goals on the year to lead Asbury, Muller receiving his second assist of his freshman season.
Luke Thomas was next in line under ten minutes after Dunlap (64') to score his second goal of the year, assisted by
Nick Clark to mark his team-leading fifth assist. Clark is now tied for sixth-place in the NCCAA in assists.
Dalton Fleshood finished the scoring frenzy with the first goal of his Asbury career in the 67th minute, putting the Eagles up 3-0.
Although the first half ended scoreless, Asbury put up 11 shots in the half. In the 35th minute AU collected five shots in five minutes but Blackburn held the score at 0-0.
The Asbury defense that hasn't allowed a goal since September 15th, held Blackburn to just one shot in the first half.
Asbury's offense followed up their first half with even more shots in the second at 13, finishing the game with 24 and 13 on goal. Both these stats mark a season-high for AU, showing that they came to play on Coach
Ben Andrews' birthday.
Blackburn was held to one shot once again in the second half, finishing the game with two shots and one on goal.
Blackburn's goalie had an impressive ten saves in the match while
Peyton French saved Blackburn's one shot on goal. AU freshman
Peyton French is now third in the NCCAA for his save percentage of .833%.
Crosby Short received action in the match as 20 Eagles came onto the pitch during the match.
With the win Asbury moves to 5-2-3. So far this season AU has outscored their opponents 18-9.
