Flaming Scores Two Goals to Lead Asbury Past Berea for Third Straight Win

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky. --- The Asbury men's soccer team (6-2-3) returned home after two weeks of away competitions to take on Berea College on Tuesday night in Wilmore. Freshman Jason Flaming scored two goals to lead Asbury to their sixth win of the season in a 5-3 match.

Asbury has now won four of their last five matches with a scoring margin of 14-3 during the run.

AU's goals were split by three in the first and two in the second. Goal scorers for AU included Dalton Fleshood, Jason Flaming (2), Luke Thomas, and Austin Dunlap. Dunlap scored the Eagles final goal of the match to give him six on the year to lead Asbury. Flaming follows behind him with four of his own, his first multi-goal game of his career coming tonight.

Berea took an early lead, capitalizing on two penalty kicks in the ninth minute, to give them a 2-0 lead. Two minutes later Asbury junior Dalton Fleshood took a free kick outside the 18 and found the back of the net to start AU's comeback against the Mountaineers.

Jason Flaming was the next to score for Asbury, equalizing with Berea off a saved header by Yousef Ismail, just three minutes later. Nick Clark received his team-leading sixth assist on the goal from a corner kick.

The Eagles pressed on and drew their own penalty kick, taken by Luke Thomas to bring Asbury all the way ahead of Berea (3-2) after trailing 0-2.

Berea responded well at the beginning of the second half, equalizing the match to tie things at 3-3 in the 57th minute. AU answered by Jason Flaming scoring his second goal of the match, assisted by Dalton Fleshood to give AU their lead back, 4-3.

Captain Austin Dunlap ensured Asbury's victory putting the fifth goal away in the 79th minute.

AU led the score sheet, outshooting Berea 21-5, and grabbed five corners while holding Berea to zero.

After their win against Berea, Asbury moves to 6-2-3. So far this season, Asbury has outscored their opponents, 23-12. AU's current record marks their best record at this point in a season since 2017.

STORY - QUOTE
"Wild match tonight. We know the threat Berea was bringing but we were prepared and ready. I'm really proud of the way the guys stayed the course tonight. What I am/everyone is starting to see is a team that can be effective from goal to goal and put up a good performance against good teams. Need to refocus and prepare for the next...humble and hungry."
