WILMORE, Ky. --- The Asbury men's soccer team hosted NCCAA opponent Boyce College on Friday night for a 7 PM matchup in Wilmore, Ky. The Eagles put up five goals in the first half to secure their fourth straight win and their seventh of the season, 6-0 over Boyce.
The Eagles have now collected six shutouts on the year, with freshman keeper
Peyton French tallying his sixth clean sheet. Asbury has now outscored their opponents 29-12 on the season, averaging only one goal allowed per game.
AU had a diverse game of goals and assists with all six goals and assists coming from different players. Goal scorers for the Eagles included
Luke Thomas,
Ryan Kim,
Dalton Fleshood,
Gavin Howard,
Cameron Johnson, and
Nick Eller. Assists coming from
Dalton Fleshood,
Nick Clark,
Oliver Gunthorpe,
Luke Thomas,
Nick Eller, and
Sawyer Hardy.
Luke Thomas began AU's drive by scoring off his right foot in the 10th minute off a touch pass from
Dalton Fleshood.
Ryan Kim followed behind one minute later with a deep goal from outside of the box, assisted by
Nick Clark. Clark is now tied for fourth in the NCCAA for assists with six.
Dalton Fleshood was next to put AU's third goal away for his second in as many matches, this time off a smooth cross through the box by
Oliver Gunthorpe.
Gavin Howard then found his first goal of the season in the 39th minute just moments after subbing in, assisted by
Luke Thomas.
Two minutes later,
Cameron Johnson found the back of the net with a nice through ball provided by
Nick Eller.
The Eagles went into the halftime break with their largest lead in a half all season, 5-0.
The scoring slowed down in the second, with the Eagles only finding the net one more time by
Nick Eller, assisted by
Sawyer Hardy in the final minutes of the match. The assist wasHardy's first assist of the season and Eller's second goal.
AU's match against Boyce marks their highest-scoring contest of the season. With this win, Asbury has now clinched a spot in the Mid-East Regional Tournament.
Asbury out-shot the Bulldogs 17-7 while collecting six corners of their own.
AU moves to 7-2-3 after their impressive home win on Friday night, 6-0.
