Asbury women's basketball (10-9) is prepared to head south for a Tuesday night meeting with Welch College (6-11) at 5:30pm (CST) in Gallatin, Tn. The Eagles have matched up with the Flames six times 2018, playing a home and away together every year except for 2020-2021. Asbury has won all six contests over Welch so far and will look to take win number 11 overall on their season.
The Eagles are playing their first game in a week, as they traveled to Rio Grande last Tuesday night for a challenging road matchup with the Red Storm. Asbury fell in the game but saw highlights from junior
Trinity Shearer, senior
Jaclynn Ruble, and sophomore
Haleigh Releford all scoring double-digits. Shearer led the way with 15 points, while Ruble was a force on the glass with five rebounds.
Asbury's relentless defense has led them all season, holding their opponents to only 38 percent from the field and just over 66 points per game. The Eagles have three players with over 35 steals on the season, and are led by
Trinity Shearer who has taken 43 steals in 19 games. Her game-high was nine steals on January 12th at Campbellsville-Harrodsburg.
The Flames from Welch are 3-1 in their last four contests, but fell in their last game on January 23rd to Freed-Hardeman. Senior guard Macey Bowman and junior center Olivia Delk lead the Flames in scoring with Bowman averaging 16.2 points and Delk 14.
