ATLANTA, Ga. --- The Asbury women's basketball team hit the road for their first game of 2023 and took on first-time opponent, Emory University. Despite three Eagles scoring in the double-digits, Emory came out on top in a 63-45 game.
Haleigh Releford and
Camryn Preston both led the Eagles with 11 points each. Releford led with six rebounds and set two season-highs with six steals and seven free-throws made.
Emma Strunk followed closely behind with 10 points and shot 66% in the field.
Emory began the matchup on top scoring 16 points compared to AU's nine, and ended the first Emory up 16-9.
Asbury began to put more points up in the second, but Emory matched AU and did the same. Asbury grabbed 13 points, but Emory found the lead once again grabbing 19, ending the second with Emory up 35-22.
The third was nearly the same with AU recording another 13 points, but Emory stood firm and recorded 17. The third ended with Emory still in the lead, 52-35.
Both teams almost matched points in the fourth, and their numbers went down as Emory recorded only 11, and AU with 10, resulting in a 63-45 win for Emory. Emory's impressive win was led by No. 00 Daniella Aronsky with 17 points and 12 assists.
After today's competition, Asbury moves to a 9-8 record.
