RIO GRANDE, Oh. --- Today's gameday matchup preview is below:
Asbury at University of Rio Grande (Ohio) | 5:30 PM | Rio Grande, Oh.
The Asbury women's basketball team (10-8) is preparing for a road test at the University of Rio Grande (18-3) on Tuesday night at 5:30 pm. The Eagles have won their last two meetings over Rio Grande, taking both matchups between the two teams in the 2020-2021 season. Asbury defeated Rio Grande last on January 13, 2021, 99-98 in Wilmore, Ky.
The programs have met nine times overall, Rio Grande holding the slight edge over AU with five wins. Asbury will look to take the longest winning streak in the series so far, with neither team taking three consecutive games from the other yet.
The Eagles are coming off a short break since their last game on January 12th, a night when they grabbed a convincing 70-48 win over Campbellsville-Harrodsburg for their tenth win of the year. Asbury was led by junior guard
Trinity Shearer as she went 10-17 from the field and 3-3 from distance for season-highs with 24 points and nine steals.
Rio Grande had a five-game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon at Oakland City, suffering only their third loss of the season. The Red Storm were led on the night by senior guard Ella Skeens, scoring 25 points and grabbing ten rebounds. Skeens leads the Red Storm with 22.1 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.
Asbury's stifling defense this season is only allowing 64.6 points per game and are turning over opponents 21.4 times each game. Rio Grande has relied on their high-powered offense all year that is averaging 92.1 points and 15.1 turnovers per game.
