Asbury Makes 16 Threes, Falls Short to Alice Lloyd in Final Seconds, 84-82


STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
PIPPA PASSES, Ky.--- Asbury men's basketball (13-3) made 16 threes on Tuesday night on the road against NCCAA foe Alice Lloyd College (9-8), but AU came up just short against ALC, 82-84.

Nick Fort led Asbury in scoring with 21 points, making three three-pointers and dishing three assists. Junior guard Caleb Wallis shined with 19 points on an efficient 7-12 night from the floor, making four threes with three rebounds, and three assists. 

John Shoulders scored a season-high 17 points on five made threes, also grabbing a team-high six rebounds. Ben McNew added 11 points on 4-5 from the field, making three of four from distance. 

Senior guard Lezra Means made his first appearance of the season with quality minutes, grabbing five rebounds and going 3-3 from the field for six points. 

Both teams had an extremely efficient first half offensively, putting up 100 points combined. Asbury made 11 threes in the first half out of their 22 taken. Alice Lloyd went 23-40 from the field in the first half. 

Damon Tobler, the junior forward for Alice Lloyd went 9-12 from the field for 20 points, also collecting five rebounds. Freshman guard Koji Anderson for ALC added 18 points on 7-14 shooting. 

Another matchup between the two familiar opponents did not disappoint, the game including four ties, three lead changes, and a last-second shot to decide the outcome. 

In a first half that saw both teams explosive offensively, Asbury took the early advantage from quick Nick Fort points. Fort led Asbury to their largest lead in the game with 8:53 to go in the first, up nine points over Alice Lloyd on their home court. 

Alice Lloyd settled in to finish the half with a strong push to give them the advantage heading into the break, up 53-47. Asbury went 17-35 from the field in the first half and knocked down 11 threes. Alice Lloyd shot an impressive 57.5 percent from the field in the first half on 23-40 from the field. 

The second half was powered early by Alice Lloyd, taking their largest lead of the contest with 16:39 remaining, up nine points over AU. Asbury's offense responded once again to take a late lead with just minutes left in the game. 

Alice Lloyd ended up with the ball in the closing seconds and managed to beat the buzzer to give Asbury their third loss this season, 84-82. 

Asbury moves to 13-3 on the year with their first loss in their last five games.
