Eagles Suffer Road Defeat Against Brevard


Brevard, N.C. --- The Asbury Men's Soccer team embarked on another away match this afternoon as they took on the Brevard College Tornados in Brevard, NC. The Eagles and the Tornados faced off for the first time in program history, with kickoff at 4 PM. Asbury came into the game off a previous 0-0 draw at Defiance and were looking for a road win against a strong Brevard team. Despite 90 minutes of hard fight put up by AU, Brevard was able to put two goals away resulting in a 2-0 loss for Asbury.

The Eagles and the Tornadoes both stayed even throughout the majority of the match, with both teams recording seven shots and three on goal, as well as both teams having exactly 50% possession throughout the match. 

In the first half, the Eagles began with a strong offensive push, but Brevard was able to keep pace. AU tallied three shots for the half recorded by Daniel Shelton, Austin Dunlap, and Micah Schneider. In the 22nd minute, Brevard put one away giving them a 1-0 lead with 23 minutes left to go in the half. Fouls were high in the half with three yellow cards and 15 fouls collectively called between both teams. The Eagle's defense held Brevard to a 1-0 lead at the end of the half.

Beginning the second half, Asbury was able to hold more of an offensive position, taking a couple of corners by Nick Clark and Sammy Abraham. AU and Brevard played a game of possession throughout the half, with both teams recording exactly 50% possession through it. AU's defense and keeper Collin McKibben held the Tornados to a 1-0 lead for over 88 minutes in the match. In the last minute of the match, Brevard put another goal away, sealing their 2-0 victory over AU.

The Eagles will finally be home on Saturday, October 1st, for a double header with the women's soccer team as both take on Depauw University. Kickoff for the men's will be at 11 AM.
