Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Takes Loss at Home Against Centre

WILMORE, Ky. --- This evening, the women's soccer team hosted Centre College for the first time in 13 years. The teams have played each other in the past, but the Eagles have not hosted the Colonels in quite some time.
Both teams fought with effort throughout the game but the the Colonels ultimately came out on top, outperforming the Eagles 4-0.

Throughout the first period, the Eagles were able to take two shots, but were unable to find the back of the net. For AU, it was Rilen Gettings and Maryah Jones to take shots in an effort to give their team a chance to put up some points.
Throughout the first period, the Colonels got off 21 shots against the Eagles, and had the opportunity to take 7 corner kicks.
By 30 minutes into play, Centre was able to acquire two goals, giving the Colonels a lead of 2-0 going into the half.

In the second period, Asbury pushed hard, but control of the game was just out of reach for the Eagles.
The Colonels were not afraid to take shots, which is clearly exhibited through the box score. Centre took 24 shots, giving them a game total of 45 shots, almost breaking 50 this evening alone.
Five minutes of play into the second period, Centre put in their third goal of the night.
Twenty minutes later, AU was only able to take their sole shot of the second period, attempted by Delaney Long.
However, Centre was able to answer and rack an additional goal on the evening, totaling their goals to 4.

Sophomore goalkeeper Maliya Crump tallied an astounding save count of 25 throughout the game.
Crump had a phenomenal performance tonight, giving her team a fighting chance to come back.
Tonight she showed that she is not afraid to come out in order to protect the net, as it is evident that Crump has earned her team's trust as a leader and stellar performer on the field.

Despite their endeavor, the Eagles were unable to match the Colonels, ending the game with a final score of 4-0, Centre.

  • AU recorded 3 shots tonight with 2 on goal
  • The Eagles had a SOG percentage of 66%
  • 6 players for the Eagles recorded a full 90 minutes of play

"To see the growth from last year to this year has been great. We still have a lot to learn but I love to see the progress!"
