Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Eagles Unable To Find Back Of The Net Against Defiance in Scoreless Draw

Defiance, Oh.--- The Asbury Men's Soccer team traveled to Defiance, Oh. Saturday afternoon to take on the Defiance Yellow Jackets. This was the first matchup in program history for the Eagles and the Jackets. AU and Defiance fought hard for 90 minutes, but despite both teams' continued attempts, neither were able to put any goals away, resulting in a 0-0 draw for the Eagles, their third draw of the season.

Asbury came out ready to play in the first half determined to create chances for themselves on offense. AU's defense was solid as well and only allowed Defiance two shots, while the Eagles were able to record 11 for the half. Austin Dunlap, Nick Eller, Sammy Abraham, and Micah Schneider all helped lead the offensive push Asbury gave in the first half. Nothing saw the back of the net yet, ending the first half at 0-0.

The second half was a continued version of the first as the two teams kept battling to break the tie. Defiance pushed back heavily and tried to gain control of the game, but Asbury's defense was determined to stay strong through Defiance's nine shots. Starting keeper, Collin McKibben saved all three of the Defiance shots on goal and helped keep Defiance scoreless. McKibben and the Asbury defense held Defiance to a scoreless match, making their second clean sheet of the season.

AU continued to push offensively, recording eight shots for the half after adding 11 in the first. Despite 90 minutes of both teams battling to find a goal, the efforts were not enough to put in any goals, giving the Eagles the third draw of their 2022 season.

  • Austin Dunlap led the board with five shots, coming back from a minor injury.
  • Nick Eller recorded four shots with two on goal.

  • Asbury recorded 19 total shots this afternoon, with eight being on goal.
  • Collin McKibben recorded his second clean sheet of the season, along with three saves.

"We struggled to be clinical in the final third. Tonight wasn't our night, but we look to tweak a couple of things to get our guys going for Wednesday."
    - Assistant Coach | Noah Welch
