Volleyball falls short to Franklin In Home Opener

WILMORE, Ky. --- The Asbury volleyball team hosted Franklin College on Saturday afternoon for the Eagles' first home match of the season. AU and Franklin put together an extremely competitive match with multiple back and forth sets, but Franklin managed to come away with the victory 3-1. 

An extremely close match between two divsion III volleyball programs came down to key points each set in Saturday's matchup. The comparisons in the match from both teams include each recording 9 aces, AU barely taking the edge in assists 28-24 and in digs 34-28

A back and forth first set that saw six lead changes ended up in the hands of Franklin College, taking the 25-19 win. The second set was another close competition, but Asbury managed to bounce back to take the set, 25-21. This set evened the match at 1-1.

The third set proved to be a deciding factor of the match. Franklin jumped out to a 17-11 lead over Asbury and looked to be taking the set. AU then went on a 10-6 run to cut their deficit to 21-23, before Franklin scored the final two points to win the set. 

Franklin then went on to take the 4th set (25-18) and the game over Asbury, 3-1. 

Erin Sexauer and Emily Janszen combined for 13 kills in the match

* Riley McChord and Callie Goodwin (both freshmen) each had 9 kills on the day

* Emma Ingalls always played well for AU with 5 kills

* AU led the game with 28 kills to Franklin's 24

* Both teams had 9 aces in the match

Delaney Long put 2 shots on goal for Asbury that both eventually led to a goal from her teammates

Asbury's next matchup will be Tuesday, September 13 in Pippa Passes, KY against Alice Lloyd College at 6 PM.
