SEASON PREVIEW: 2022 Asbury Men's Soccer

WILMORE, KY. - The Asbury University men’s soccer team are geared up for their 2022 season, featuring a total of 17 games for TeamAU. Entering year 13 as head coach of the Eagles, Ben Andrews stated that he is, “very excited about the group of guys coming in this year. Not only are we adding quality players, we are adding great people to an already special family.”

During the 2021 season, Asbury brought in a lot of skilled players to the team, and are looking forward to seeing how returning players have stepped up and improved since last year in many facets of the game. The team lost 7 seniors last year, and had no problem replenishing the numbers, or talent, welcoming 15 freshmen this season. The Eagles have a huge opportunity to push forward and have a successful 2022 season with their team, as Andrews anticipates a successful 2022 campaign.

One key player who the team is grateful to have back is a leader on and off the field, Yannick Landwehr. He is a senior captain this year, who is eager to come back after an ACL injury kept him out of the past season. Landwehr is a huge asset to the Eagles, playing a strong force at center back and helping lead the team’s defense.

As a team, we are looking forward to stepping back onto the field and representing something bigger than ourselves. We feel that we have something to prove as a team, and we are ready to compete on the highest level.

The Eagles are looking to make a statement in the Fall 2022 season. Key games for the Eagles this year will include their first official home game, on September 6th, where they will compete against Transylvania University. The other key game for TeamAU will be played against Depauw University on October 1st, on Alumni Day.

The Eagles will begin their 2022 season by traveling to Richmond, IN on September 1st to compete against Earlham College. The team’s first home event will be against Transylvania University on September 6th.
