WILMORE, Ky. --- The Asbury baseball team matched up with MUW on Saturday afternoon and West Virginia Tech later in the day for their second and third games of the weekend. After a fantastic nine game winning streak Asbury was finally topped by MUW (3-7) and later defeated again by WV Tech (3-20).Â
Game 1 vs. MUW
Alec Lush got the start on the mound for AU, coming off his award of The NCCAAÂ (Pitcher) Student-Athlete of the Week. Lush provided 5.1 innings of work and struck out 6, but the hot bats of MUW were able to get 7 runs off of him to give him the loss (6-3).
David Savastio finished the game on the mound for AU going 1.2 innings of scoreless work to keep Asbury in the game.Â
After MUW took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second it was Asbury charging back in the bottom of the second to score 2 runs, led by a two out RBI double off the right field fence by Alec Lush to score Wade Everley (2-1 AU).
The game went back and forth in the middle innings as MUW homered in the third to take a 3-2 lead, but Walker Paris answered in the same inning with a blast over the right center wall to even the game at 3-3.Â
MUW homered in the fourth and then scored 3 more runs in the sixth off 3 bunt for hits in the inning to give themselves a 7-3 lead.Â
Asbury could not ever get into their offensive groove they have been so accustomed to and fell for their first time in 10 games, 3-7.Â
Game 2 vs. WV Tech
Jackson Cole got the start for Asbury in game two of the day against WV Tech, and met another hot offensive team who scored 9 runs in four innings (7 earned). Cole continued to work, striking out 6 in his 4.0 innings but took his second loss of the season.Â
WV Tech got off to an early 4-0 lead over Asbury that the Eagles could not recover from. The offense for Asbury was not it's usual self on the day and their opponents were clicking on the offensive side.
Tech scored 3 more in the fourth to extend their lead to 8-0 before Asbury got on the board in the bottom half off RBI singles from Kaden Dugle and Cam Weaver.Â
Matthew Baker would have another RBI single in the fifth for Asbury to score Jackson Cole but that would be it for the Eagle offense as they were once again held to 3 runs.Â
AU now moves to 24-12 on the season as they will look to bounce back from this adversity to finish strong in the final week of their regular season.Â

"This was a challenging day for our team to get punched in the mouth in two consecutive games, especially after winning nine in a row. We always want to win and play well, but I believe this can be used for growth and development for our team as we use these losses to learn and continue to get better. Our goal all season is to be the best team we can be when the month of May hits, we are not there yet so we are still working. It was an incredible winning streak that these guys deserve credit for, they will be ready to go the next time out."
