Asbury Sweeps Doubleheader, Moves to Six Consecutive Wins

WILMORE, Ky. --- The Asbury baseball team hosted Wright St. Lake University for a doubleheader on Friday afternoon to kick off a three-game series. The Eagles kept their winning momentum going as they scored double digits in both games to defeat Wright St. Lake 14-6 and 11-1.

Game 1
Senior right-hander Walker Paris started game one for Asbury, providing 4.0 innings of work with 5 runs allowed. Backing up Paris was Tanner McKee, the sophomore from Somerset, Ky., who provided AU with 3.0 incredible innings of relief. McKee struck out 6 and allowed only one run to close this game out.

Wright St. Lake grabbed an early 3-1 lead in the second after Cory Cotrell hit a 2-run home run, but it would be their only lead the rest of the game. The Asbury offense got going in a powerful way in the bottom of the second, scoring 9 runs in the inning on 7 hits to take a 10-3 lead. The inning consisted of 5 singles, a double, and a grand slam off the bat of senior Matthew Baker (his first home run of the season).

AU scored 3 more in the third off a Kaden Dugle 2 RBI triple and an RBI double from Parker Burge. Asbury went on to take the victory over Wright St. Lake, 14-6. This win marked Asbury's 20th win of the season and their 5th consecutive.

Game 2
For senior weekend it was special start for the senior Alec Lush in game two, and he did not disappoint. Lush put together a dominating performance, striking out 10 in only 5.0 innings for his team leading 6th win. Lush allowed only 1 hit and no runs. David Savastio came on in relief for 2.0 innings to finish off the game.

Asbury chipped away 1 run in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings to give themselves a 3-0 lead behind Alec Lush's performance. In the 5th inning the Asbury offense hit their stride once again, scoring 6 runs behind 5 hits to take a 9-0 lead. The inning was powered by a 2 RBI double from Nathaniel Frank and a 2 RBI single from Noah Brown.

Ethan Cartwright blasted a home run over the left-center wall in the bottom of the seventh (his 5th in 6 games) that was followed by a triple from Noah Brown. Noah Brown eventually would score and end the game with AU defeating Wright St. Lake 11-1. Asbury moves to 21-10 on the year and have won 6 games in a row.
